After turning in my last book to my editor, I’m taking a short break and feeling guilty for not jumping right into the next book or diving into promotions. I’m spending time with my oldest grandson ans having fun playing HANGMAN. (Good practice for vocabulary and spelling.) I am thinking about my next book…mentally organizing it at least. What I’m not doing is promoting. Does an author have to keep promoting every day?

I guess if you want to keep your profile up front with readers, sadly the answer is … yes. Think about the level of competition out there. How many authors, how many pen names, how many books get published daily? It’s daunting to consider.

Fortunately, I have enough books out right now that I can rotate them to prevent boring my fans with book commercials, but I still need time to write…new blogs, ads, twitter, facebook stuff, etc. Oh yes …and the next book on my agenda. I have several author friends I’ve discussed this with. Some think they can only promote the last book they wrote; others don’t like promoting at all. (Who does?) Some do book signings, some do online events.  I, on the other hand, like to mix it up. But one thing I do believe is that I should promote all of my books equally; one because I write several genres, and two because not everyone has read  nor heard of everything I’ve written…yet. Until then, I will always have potential new readers for my books.

After a decade of editing, I put on my editor hat and wrote a book for writers. Maximum Impact is for any type of writer. If you write short or long, fiction or non-fiction, copy write, or write ad matter, I discuss the various technical needs we as writers encounter. Take notes and write examples in the paperback. Use it like a journal. Bookmark and enter your own thoughts in the ebook. This is a book you can grow with no matter what length books or projects you’re working on.

The last impressive super moon that was this large was the year after I was born…1968… do the math. It’s been a long time, and I was too young to appreciate it. Tonight, I hope I get to see it. I finished my shifter novella Dire Moon last night, after finally becoming inspired. My main character is a dire wolf from Scotland, a member of the last purebred dire family in the world. Larger, more powerful, and gifted, Lucas comes to Florida to discover who abducted his sister…and why. Laurel, her personal security guard is more than he counts on. Together they uncover a diabolical plan to biologically enhance the shifters with dire DNA and explore their strange, irresistible attraction. Can’t wait for a cover and a release date. I’m hoping for sometime in the first quarter of 2017.

Just a romantic thought to contemplate for today…

I’ve been working on an ongoing project that’s about a hair colorist named Delia who is the only human working in the high end spa in Boca, owned and run by Franco DeWolf alias Frankie the wolf. Iresistible to the social elite clientele, he talks a big show but thank goodness the staff is there to cover his useless ass. Why the siren on the rock for inspiration?  Delia’s ninety year old aunt returns to her lost siren beauty once a month as she sings through the night out on the beach. It’s only later that Delia’s gift of song becomes exposed for what it is…siren blood and she’s horrified!

The series, called As the Chair Turns, is an ongoing humorous paranormal serial about Delia and Frankie and the local interaction between the supernaturals and the spa’s human clients.

I’m excited to announce I’ve signed a contract for my new shifter erotic romance with Decadent Publishing as part of The Hot Moon Rising series.  The Moonlight pack welcomes a new wolf to town. I’m not quite sure which of the men below Lucas resembles more.

I know you’ve been waiting  impatiently to see how the kitchen project is coming along. Ha ha! But although it seems like I’ve been making coffee in the bathroom forever, it’s only been since last month. Now that it’s finally coming along, I’m loving it. We had a major glitch after the granite went in. The backsplash we bought a couple of years ago just didn’t look right with it.

We both adore the backsplash. But there was no way of making it work. So I started my hunt for a new backsplash. Absolutely nothing appealed to me …well let me rephrase that …everything appealed to me — it just wouldn’t go with the granite on the countertops or the cabinets.

I began my hunt online and found something I thought might work. I liked the texture of it, and I figured I could find the color to go with what we had. Later that day when my husband came home from work, we made a trip out to the tile store. The last row, the last aisle, in the back corner, they had just brought in a new display and, as we looked at it, we both said yes, that’s what we’re looking for.

Look at that texture, look at the colors. It’s all natural stone, rocks my favorite things. I get to stare at the details, search the crystals, look inside the little tiny geodes. Every little space is a world in itself. I can go exploring on the backsplash in the kitchen while I’m washing dishes.

Nope. The kitchen is not done yet. But at least that one wall is finished. We still have one to go. Then it’s the challenge of that pass through over the sink. We may need ideas, and are certainly going to need help. The granite slab is sitting here in my family room waiting to get installed.

The book rights for this book reverts back to me on September 8th. I have to provide a new cover and it needs a few updates. This is the rough draft of the cover. I uploaded the new one today. If We don’t lose power tomorrow, with the storm, I should be able to get it scheduled on all the main distribution centers.

So I’m also formatting for multiple systems. The book has a companion read which I’d like to update too. Then I have to add them to all my buy sites. 

While I’m doing all the housekeeping  an independent author handles, I’m still trying to write a book I just signed a contract for and do the final edits on a full length novel I plan to have out in the spring.

The author’s best friend is the PA. Personal assistants can take s load off an author’s shoulders so she can spend her time effectively writing. Because there are still blogs, newsletters, contests, and book signings to take up writing time.
